A New Closet?

Okay Dons blog readers, I have an interesting kind of different post about closets. I have joined a new women's Bible study that has been talking about our "thought" closets and I guess it had me thinking about closets and all kinds of things. I have also started working and received a fabulous coupon to create a new closet.

So...here is where my life is intersecting in a new way. Nick and I decided we'd design a new closet. I believed this process would be fairly easy and quick-WRONG! First we had to come up with what we wanted in our "new closet". This involved a lot of back and forth and lists of what items we have and want to keep and what we "need" in our closets. After many back and forth conversations and drawings we finally got the design down.

Then we had to purge our old closet. (This also has me thinking about what one of the women shared in study today. It's hard to get a new item/thought in our closet when it's filled with the old items/thoughts. We have to get rid of old stuff to make room for new. Think about that one!) The getting rid of stuff was very time consuming and painful in a way as I've grown accustomed to having all kinds of "junk" in my old closet that didn't seem like "junk" to me but now has made ample room for organizing the stuff I want to keep in my closet. (Again, run all this through the thought analogy!)

I am posting a couple of pictures of our transformation. I can say I am very pleased with my new closet and it has made getting ready in the morning easier and more enjoyable. But there are some mornings I get confused or even think about the old closet. Most of the time it's with a sigh of relief or smile. All, I can say is the process of transforming a closet of any kind is involved, intentional, somewhat painful, but very rewarding!
PS I had to sneak one shot of my kids cleaning out of their toy box. This one may have been more painful for mommy!
